Financial Aid Specialist

FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares financial aid packages based on specific program eligibility and total award amount; reviews and verifies initial and ongoing student eligibility to receive various program funds; identifies awards available through various sources; combines funds to create a total financial aid award; prepares documentation to release or hold warrants.
  • Monitors student records for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and other criteria to ensure that financial aid obligations have been met and determines whether additional financial aid disbursements can be released; notifies students of continued eligibility or disqualification; advises students of appeal processes.
  • Monitors student enrollment, recalculating awards when necessary, and has one-on-one counseling sessions with students.
  • Attends meetings and participates on committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Researches, verifies, analyzes, and assesses student financial histories, including defaulted loans and/or repayment obligations at other institutions.
  • Oversees Title IV refunds and repayments, including U.S. Department of Education and National Student Loan Data Systems notifications.

REQUIRED:

  • Associate degree in relevant field or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a financial aid setting or related field.
  • Foundation in financial aid knowledge including Federal regulations and compliance, awarding, and administering financial aid.
  • Must be in good standing with Title IV loans in order to obtain access to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).
  • Tactful and diplomatic in handling difficult communications and conversations with internal and external clients.
  • Proficiency in Windows operating environment, current Microsoft Office Suite products, and Google.
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management software (CRM) preferred, i.e. Salesforce, along with knowledge of a Student Information System (SIS), i.e. Jenzabar, and PowerFAIDS or comparable platform is preferred.

DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO:

  • Liaise with internal staff and manage projects as well as work independently in order to meet deadlines.
  • Explain policies and procedures to students and colleagues to foster compliance.
  • Work effectively with a wide range on constituencies in a diverse community;
  • Analyze and solve problems within the constraints of College policies and procedures;
  • Listen carefully, to interpret accurately, and to respond to a high volume of requests;
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality with all aspects of the job duties;

STATUS:

Regular Full-Time/Exempt – Position can be performed completely remote. Candidates local to the surrounding Philadelphia area are optimal due to necessary job functions as role may have expectations of onsite/event attendance, as needed.

Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required as employees they cannot enter our facilities, attend meetings or events, on behalf of Peirce, without it. 

HOURS:

Day, evening, and weekend responsibilities, as required.
